The Mind Remembers Everything

I found myself mildly obsessed with the song Halcyon by Orbital, I was listening to the remixed extended version Halcyon On and On that is great for exercise. I listened to it frequently on my walks. I watched the video and didn’t recall ever seeing it, but figured I must have back in the day when it came out in the ’90s. Who remembers every single music video they saw, especially a quarter century or so ago, right? But it kept nagging and nagging at me. I knew I know this song from somewhere, but I just couldn’t remember where. I took a look on youtube at the comments under the listing for the remix, which is what I should have done in the first place (that or simply read the wiki page about the song) and lo and behold it’s the ending song for the movie Mean Girls!

I’m so surprised because years ago when my now-adult kids were actual kids we used to have a weekly movie night. Everyone got a turn to pick the movie. My sons always picked Bionicles 2 and my daughter always picked Mean Girls. I have seen both movies so much I have them memorized, so it cracks me up that I couldn’t instantly place Mean Girls as being THE reason why I knew this song.

But wait! On further reading, I realized why my mind didn’t immediately jump to Mean Girls. Long before Mean Girls, this song was used as the ending to the movie Mortal Kombat, and the beginning to the movie Hackers! Both of which I’ve seen. Youtube is amazing, and the mind remembers everything.
