I love this quote by Jane Goodall: “It actually doesn’t take much to be considered a difficult woman. That’s why there are so many of us.” This scientist was a renowned British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace.
She wasn’t wrong at all though, you can be called a difficult woman even if you follow all the rules for female behavior as defined by the men of your culture. But if you want to be deemed especially difficult, basically just assert that you should have the rights of men. Anywhere on earth this gets you labeled a difficult woman. Many men tend to take this as if you’re trying to have authority over them. Or they really think that women wanting authority over OURSELVES is wrong and is telling them what to do. Why? Many men really, really, really believe they are supposed to be in charge of us. For some it’s been ingrained in them due to religion, for others it’s due to culture, and so on.
